In offset printing, choosing the right varnish has an impact on process stability, handling times and final quality. At MA Inks, we develop solutions adapted to different technologies, substrates and application systems, adjusting each formulation to the technical requirements of every job.

Varnishes formulated to provide gloss, matt and special effects that enhance the final perception of the printed product.

Solutions designed to protect the surface and improve performance during handling, transport and use.

Formulations designed to perform reliably under real printing, drying and finishing conditions.
Depending on the substrate, the application system, the type of finish and the process requirements, at MA Inks we develop different families of varnishes to respond precisely to each project.

Varnishes formulated to protect the printed product and improve its surface finish, rub resistance and handling performance. Available in gloss, matt and satin finishes, with options adapted to the substrate and process.

Water-based acrylic coatings for application in a coating unit, in-line or off-line. Available in gloss, matt and satin finishes, with specific versions for food barrier, grease resistance or moisture resistance.

UV/UV LED curing varnishes, designed to provide immediate drying, high resistance and functional or decorative finishes. Available in gloss, matt and special effects, with formulations adapted to demanding packaging applications.
For boxes, packaging and applications on paper or cardboard where the varnish provides resistance, improves the finish and meets the requirements of the final job. Several water-based formulations in the range are designed specifically for packaging and commercial applications, with options even for indirect food contact.
Varnishes for catalogues, covers, brochures and printed materials that require a more refined presentation, surface protection and stable performance during handling and finishing. MA Inks includes these uses among its regular applications, together with publishing and advertising.
Applications where varnish helps create visual contrast, highlight specific areas and reinforce product perception through gloss, matt or special combined effects.
At MA Inks, we offer a range of varnishes and coatings for offset printing designed to meet different application, finish and process requirements. We provide solutions for conventional offset, water-based varnishes, UV and UV LED systems, as well as UV Flexo and UV Screen coatings for specific applications.

We answer some of the most common questions about offset varnishes, their applications, finishes and selection criteria in printing.
In offset printing, different solutions can be used depending on the application system and the type of process. Within the MA Inks range, there are overprint varnishes for conventional offset, water-based varnishes and energy-curing UV and UV LED varnishes, as well as other specific solutions for certain applications.
The main difference lies in the application system, the drying or curing method and the type of job each solution is designed for. Overprint varnishes are used in conventional offset; water-based varnishes offer different possibilities for commercial printing and packaging; and UV and UV LED varnishes are designed for energy-curing processes and specific technical and visual requirements. The MA Inks range itself organises its offer around these main families.
It depends on the substrate, the final use of the packaging and the technical requirements of the project. In packaging, aspects such as rub resistance, drying, low migration or even specific barrier properties may be relevant. Within the MA Inks range, for example, there are low-migration water-based varnishes for indirect food contact and barrier solutions for specific applications.
Depending on the formulation selected, gloss, matt, semi-matt and other special effects can be achieved. MA Inks technical documentation includes high gloss, matt and silk solutions, as well as UV and UV LED drip-off formulations to create visual contrast between matt and gloss areas.
To choose the right varnish, it is important to assess the type of substrate, the application system, the desired finish, press performance and the requirements of the final job. In some projects, factors such as subsequent handling, indirect food contact or compatibility with other finishing processes may also be decisive. MA Inks documentation shows precisely that each formulation is adapted to different applications, substrates and requirements.
